Back in Tim Hortons’ land. Amtrak Cascades train dropped me off right in Vancouver, BC. This bustling city turned out to be a pretty good spot for hanging out before going on the big transcontinental ride to Toronto. I utilized the time for a sightseeing flight on one of the float planes. This was the smallest aircraft I have been on so far. Its fun and actually more stable than I expected. Vancouver acts as the western terminal of the major rail lines in Canada. Therefore there are a lots of trains and many, many containers around. Tracks reach downtown right at the harbor providing an interesting amount of freight cars and high rise buildings along a waterfront. A delight for the train watcher but also a challenge for the avid rail photographer due to structures and city infrastructure blocking the view for good shots. Anyways, Capilano suspension bridge and nature park as well as Granville street which changes its character from high price shopping district to bar and entertainment mall slightly with every block provide alternatives for the traveling railfan. Last but not least Steamworks Brewery has the honor being the only restaurant on my tour so far that I have eaten at twice. Good food, good beer and a great server made the deal.
