Polish Hussar and German Bull

Train watching at the modern Berlin Central Station is fun. On two levels, down below under ground as well high above street level on the historic „Stadbahn“ line along the river spree. Due to construction no S-Bahn operated through Berlin Hbf today so I had to take the RegioBahn service leaving form the platform right across. While waiting for my train I enjoyed some Saturday morning traffic. Beside the occasional ICE, IC and regional MU sets the PKP (Polish Railways) EuroCity train caught my attention. As an Austrian the lead engine immediately makes me feel home as the PKP class 5 370 „Husarz“ has its origins in the Taurus locomotive family developed by Siemens as ES64. The EC service features 4 trains in each directions per day between Berlin and Warsaw. If all goes well the 345 mi/555 km will be navigated in about 5 1/2 hrs which leads to an average speed of 62mph/100kmh.

In the background we see a coach cars in contemporary Deutsche Bahn IC livery while to the right, further down the platform a DB class 442.3  – Bombardier Talent 2 waits for passengers to board.

DB 182 010 briefly stops in Berlin Hbf with a two level commuter consist in tow.

And, to my delight, DB also deploys their members of the Taurus family in service through Berlin Centrals station!
